The restaurant edit / September 2026
5 of the best restaurants in Phuket — and the evening each one deserves
The best restaurant is the one that suits the evening you actually want. A nine-part tasting menu and a relaxed table of friends can both be wonderful. They do require slightly different invitations.

My five choices are hom for a tasting-menu evening, JAMPA for seasonal cooking, Acqua for Italian fine dining, Black Ginger for a theatrical Thai dinner and SUAY Cherngtalay for a sociable contemporary meal. This is an editorial shortlist by occasion, rather than a claim to have measured every restaurant on the island.
Start with the kind of evening
| Restaurant | Area | I would choose it for |
|---|---|---|
| hom | Kamala | A focused tasting-menu dinner. source ↗ |
| JAMPA | Thep Krasatti / Thalang | Seasonal produce and cooking over fire. source ↗ |
| Acqua | Kalim, north of Patong | A dressed-up Italian evening. source ↗ |
| Black Ginger | Nai Yang | Thai food in a distinctive pavilion setting. source ↗ |
| SUAY | Cherngtalay | Contemporary Thai cooking with friends. source ↗ |
For this edit I compared the restaurants’ current menus, locations and service information with the occasion each best suits. One deliberate omission: PRU announced a break from 30 August to 30 September 2026. It belongs in a future conversation, rather than in a September reservation plan that ends at a closed door. source ↗
1. hom — when dinner is the evening
At InterContinental Phuket in Kamala, hom builds its cooking around fermentation and local ingredients. The current hotel page names Marcelo Baruch as chef de cuisine and offers six- or nine-moment menus, with dinner Tuesday to Saturday from 18:30. source ↗
This is my choice for someone who enjoys following a chef’s sequence: noticing a flavour return, asking a question, letting dinner take its own pace. I would clear the rest of the evening and discuss dietary needs before reserving. A tasting menu has a structure; arriving with an unscheduled collection of dislikes makes everyone’s job more interesting.
2. JAMPA — for the ingredient-curious
JAMPA, at Tri Vananda in Thep Krasatti, centres its menu on seasonal produce and live-fire cooking. Its four-course experience is listed at THB 2,900++, with a stated 17.7% service charge and tax: THB 3,413.30 per person before drinks or extras. Regular service is Thursday–Monday, 12:00–22:00. source ↗
I would choose it for a lunch that becomes the main event, or an early dinner with someone who cares as much about a vegetable as a luxury ingredient. The useful question here is “what is good this week?” rather than “can I order the exact dish from last year’s photograph?” Seasonal cooking is allowed to have seasons.
3. Acqua — Italian, with an occasion attached
Alessandro Frau’s Acqua sits in Kalim and brings a Sardinian perspective to contemporary Italian fine dining. Its official Phuket menu and guide listing make it a strong candidate for an evening built around precise cooking and carefully chosen ingredients. source ↗ source ↗
I would put this on the list for an anniversary, a long-awaited catch-up or simply a night when dressing for dinner sounds enjoyable. Give the restaurant a budget and ask whether à la carte or the current tasting format better suits it. “We love Italian food” is a useful beginning; it does not yet tell the kitchen how you want to spend the evening.
4. Black Ginger — a little theatre with your Thai dinner
Black Ginger is The Slate’s Thai restaurant in Nai Yang. Dark pavilions, water and the resort’s dramatic design give it a strong sense of arrival. The restaurant publishes daily dinner service from 18:00 to 23:00 and a smart-casual dress code. source ↗
This is where I would make the setting part of the invitation. Allow time to arrive properly, then let the food have your attention. Beach sandals and a last-minute dash are unlikely to improve the mood. If you are celebrating, tell the team what matters: a quieter table, a particular dietary requirement or enough time between courses.
5. SUAY Cherngtalay — for a table with personality
Chef Tammasak Chootong’s Cherngtalay flagship brings Thai flavours and European technique together. The menu includes ideas such as miang foie gras and grilled eggplant; the current venue is at 177/99 Moo 6, Si Sunthon. source ↗
SUAY would be my choice when the group wants interesting food without turning dinner into a seminar. Agree on a few dishes together, leave space for something unfamiliar and let the conversation wander. Check the Cherngtalay pin when booking: the story of the original SUAY in Phuket Town can otherwise send your driver into a different chapter.
The three questions I would ask before booking
- What menu is available on our date, and what is the final price including charges?
- Can the kitchen accommodate our dietary requirements with advance notice?
- Which table or dining area best suits the evening, and what are the deposit and cancellation terms?
A good reservation begins with a clear idea of the evening. The restaurant can help with the rest.
Useful to know
Frequently asked questions
Which restaurant would you choose for a tasting menu in Phuket?
hom is my choice for a dedicated tasting-menu evening. JAMPA offers a four-course experience for a different, produce-focused occasion. Confirm the menu for your date. source ↗ source ↗
Are these five Michelin-starred restaurants?
No. This is an editorial selection. A restaurant’s appearance in the MICHELIN Guide does not automatically mean it holds a star.
Why is PRU missing?
Its official website announced a temporary closure from 30 August to 30 September 2026. Check directly for later reservations. source ↗
