Is a sea view overrated? What I actually choose for everyday life
I live between hills now. Every day I look out at tropical greenery, and I love the quiet and the sense of being tucked away. It is not the sea-view picture people often imagine when they think of moving to Phuket. It is the view I enjoy living with.

For everyday life, I choose quiet, greenery and comfort. And I keep reminding myself that choosing a home in the hills does not mean forgetting the sea.
The view you live with, not just photograph
A sea view is beautiful. But a home also has mornings, workdays and evenings when you are tired. I care about the light, privacy, how quiet it feels and whether the ordinary journey to a favourite café is easy. These things stay with you after the excitement of moving has settled.
For me, the green hills give that feeling of comfort. I do not need every morning to look like the cover of a travel magazine. I want to look out of the window and feel at ease. Right now, that is what I find here.
How the sea becomes something you will do later
There is a strange side to living somewhere people dream of visiting: you can stop making time for it. The sea is nearby, so you can always go tomorrow. Then work, errands and familiar routines fill another week. I recognise this in myself, and I do not like it.
The sea has not become less beautiful. I have simply started treating it as something that will always wait. That is the habit I want to interrupt: to go without needing visitors, an occasion or the perfect plan. To remind myself where I actually live.
I want room for both
I would still choose the quiet and greenery that make my everyday life comfortable. But I also want the sea to be part of that life, not just part of the address. Sometimes caring for yourself means closing the laptop and making the short journey you have kept postponing.
A beautiful place deserves more than being the background to your busy life.
